Dennis Kinsey is working with Faculty Affairs, academic deans, faculty and students to facilitate adoption of a faculty information system. In this role, he leads the assessment of potential tools that the University may adopt to capture details about faculty activities in the domains of research, teaching and service in a useful, consistent, and shareable manner. This includes evaluation of potential vendors, gathering faculty and administrator input and developing effective communication about this work to the University Community, including educating faculty about the benefits of the chosen system and the plan for University-wide adoption.
Melissa Luke is working with Faculty Affairs, as well as with other key faculty, students, and administrators, including deans, to create and deliver career and professional development for faculty. During fall semester 2020 and spring semester 2021, she is leading faculty professional development opportunities including the “Transforming Hot Moments into Positive Conversations” workshop with Provost Faculty Fellow Jeff Mangram, other partners in Faculty Affairs, and others on campus. She is working collaboratively to design and implement additional workshops to meet faculty development needs.
Yingyi Ma is working with Syracuse Abroad to identify and operationalize residential and online study options for international students who are unable or unwilling to return to campus in 2021 due to the pandemic, with a particular focus on Chinese students. She is leading the Syracuse University institutional outreach team to identify and engage viable Chinese partner institutions based on the needs of Syracuse University schools and colleges, including leading the team negotiating with potential partners. She will also work with senior leadership and staff from the schools and colleges, Syracuse Abroad, the Center for International Services and faculty colleagues to develop promising relationships with international universities, particularly those in China, and will evaluate the University’s current partnerships to discern where the University has unrealized opportunities, build relationships and assist University leadership in meeting their goals (enrollment, research, exchange, etc.) through new partnerships.
Jeffery Mangram continues to partner with Associate Provost Chris Johnson, Provost Faculty Fellow Kira Reed and Professor Cathryn Newton to further the adoption and implementation of a one-credit, first-year seminar course that focuses on issues of diversity, belonging, inclusion, equity and access. He is also collaborating with Faculty Affairs and the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence to create and implement professional development training workshops for Syracuse University faculty and staff, aimed at issues of diversity, belonging, inclusion and access in the classroom and in the University broadly. In addition, he is working with deans and associate deans in the schools and colleges to develop a coherent plan to organize, enhance, improve and grow the array of professional and career development opportunities for Syracuse University faculty.
Anne Mosher’s work as a Faculty Fellow focuses on the implementation and assessment of the shared competencies and other high-impact practices in undergraduate education at the university. The shared competencies represent core outcomes that all of our undergraduate students are expected to attain prior to graduation through a range of experiences, both curricular and co-curricular. Prior to her appointment as a Faculty Fellow, Professor Mosher has been a campus leader in the formulation, adoption and implementation of the shared competencies. She will work with Associate Provost Chris Johnson, Senior Assistant Provost Jerry Edmonds, and the Senate ad hoc Committee on the Shared Competencies to advance this critical work.
Kira Reed continues to partner with Associate Provost Chris Johnson, Provost Faculty Fellow Jeffrey Mangram and Professor Cathryn Newton to further the adoption and implementation of a one-credit, first-year seminar course that focuses on issues of diversity, belonging, inclusion, equity and access. In this role, she also leads the planning and implementation of an academically sound and institutionally sustainable model for the first-year experience including assessment and ongoing evaluation, building on our progress to date.
