FAQ

1. Who qualifies for dual career support services?

Services are available to you if you are the partner of a newly hired (or expected hire), full-time faculty member or senior staff member or administrator and if you expect to or have recently relocated to the Syracuse area as a result of your partner’s position at the University. Partners of current faculty also may request assistance from the Dual Career Network.

2. What does the Dual Career Network offer?

Our program provides the relocating partner with up-to-date information on open positions at Syracuse University, as well as information on the Syracuse job market, job search strategy, and referrals for informational interviews both at SU and with regional employers. We also can refer you to career services for assistance with your resume, CV, cover letters and interviewing techniques.

3. Am I guaranteed employment?

No. We do not guarantee employment or create job openings. However, we will assist you in your job search. Clients work closely with the Dual Career Network coordinator to identify job opportunities, update their job seeking skills and obtain networking information.

4. Will I be given preferential treatment for Syracuse University positions?

The Dual Career Network does not compromise the normal hiring or search process, but we can provide a letter of support to a hiring supervisor to identify you as dual career client for University positions.

5. Can you help me find employment outside of Syracuse University?

Yes. The Dual Career Network maintains a network of business contacts in the community and surrounding area to assist you in your job search. Some of the area industries include health care, financial services, manufacturing, and a growing high technology corridor.

6. Do I have to pay for this service?

No. The services offered through the Dual Career Network are free of charge. Additionally, you will not be charged fees if you are to be referred to a recruiter or recruiting firm through the Dual Career Network.

7. How long will you assist me in my job search?

We will assist you for up to 12 months or until you secure employment, whichever comes first.

8. Can you assist me in finding an academic position?

The Dual Career Network does assist you in identifying academic opportunities at Syracuse University and at other local colleges and universities. To get started, visit SUJobOpps and the UNY HERC website.
