Study Away for Faculty

Syracuse University’s study away locations in Los Angeles, New York City and Washington, D.C., allow faculty to extend the reach of their teaching and scholarship far beyond the Syracuse campus. Each location places faculty inside a distinct professional ecosystem, opening doors to teaching innovation, industry partnerships, research collaborations, guest speakers and mentorship opportunities. Whether hosting a student immersion experience, organizing a workshop or conducting field research, faculty gain access to world-class facilities, extensive alumni networks and the kind of real-world context that deepens both their own work and their students’ learning.

Together, the three study away locations represent a powerful extension of the University’s academic mission, offering faculty the resources, connections and environments to advance their work on a national stage.

Course Development

Faculty members with ideas for new courses or programs based at any of the University’s study away locations should begin by submitting the Study Away New Program Interest Form. Proposals will be reviewed by academic affairs leadership as well as leadership in relevant schools or colleges.

Additionally, the Office of Academic Affairs provides up to six full-time faculty members with $10,000 awards to develop high-impact projects at study away locations during summer as part of the competitive Study Away Summer Awards initiative. Proposals are due in early March.
