Because getting to know a new university takes time, the Office of Faculty Affairs stages faculty orientation activities over a multi-year period, emphasizing socialization with faculty colleagues and a progressive orientation to campus opportunities, concerns and expectations, all while providing the tools and perspectives that will help you thrive in your academic career.
Orientation includes:
- New Faculty Welcome: a one-of-a-kind full-day program held on the Wednesday before classes begin each fall semester and designed to put you in the room with the people who will be integral to your success. Whether you’re new to the University or transitioning into a new role, you will benefit from attending this event. New faculty, including those who began their positions in the previous January, will receive a request to register for the event in July.
- Launch Workshop Series
- Other Resources: a collection of information, guidance and advice for navigating University systems and policies, including the Blackboard Organization, a one-stop resource for your first few years. As soon as you have a Syracuse University NetID (the part of your email before the “@syr.edu”), or after July 1 each year (whichever is later), navigate to blackboard.syracuse.edu.
- Log in using your NetID and password.
- Select “Organizations” from the left menu.
- Select “New Faculty Resources” from your list of organizations. If you don’t see the organization, try searching for “new.”
The New Faculty Resources organization is structured in a way that makes it easy for you to find information about:
Onboarding: including information about Human Resources benefits, parking and getting an ID card.
Essential resources: programs and guidance that get our top rating, and are the most important to your long-term success.
Events: you will find handouts, slides or recordings (where available), organized by year, that cover workshops you attended or were unable to attend.
Local and regional information: links and directories of community resources like state and county parks, historic sites, performance venues and more.
