Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP)

The Collegiate and Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) supports undergraduate students majoring in STEM fields or planning to pursue careers in medicine, law, education, health, engineering, technology or other licensed professions. It is funded by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

Who Can Apply?

CSTEP is open to students who are New York State residents, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, with at least two semesters remaining before graduation.

Benefits

  • Monthly “drop-in” events for students to connect with peers and staff

Other services include:

  • Participation in community-building activities and leadership opportunities
  • Access to a food pantry
  • Enrollment in DAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT and OAT preparation courses; professional skills courses (such as Confident New Hire, Critical Thinking and others); and licensure exams (such as FE)
  • Assistance with graduate and professional school applications and exam fees
  • Support with research and internship stipends
  • Enrichment in science, math, study and time management skills
  • Travel support for professional conferences and visits to post-baccalaureate programs
  • A “home away from home” atmosphere

Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP)

The Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP), also funded by NYSED, provides academic assistance and enrichment activities for Onondaga County students in grades 7-12. Participating students develop skills for future pre-professional science, technology, engineering, mathematics and health programs through hands-on activities held on the Syracuse University campus throughout the year.

Who Can Apply?

STEP is open to students who have been New York State residents for at least one year and who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
