As a teaching professor, you play a vital role in shaping the student experience through your deep commitment to education, mentorship and instructional excellence. With teaching as your primary mission, you help foster curiosity, critical thinking and a passion for lifelong learning among our students. Your impact extends far beyond the classroom—through student outcomes, curriculum development and your contribution to a vibrant, student-centered academic community.
To support you in this work, the Office of Faculty Affairs provides targeted workshops designed to guide you through the academic year. We offer resources about the reappointment process, giving you the tools and clarity you need to advance confidently in your academic career. We also host casual get-togethers that help you connect with other faculty navigating similar roles, opportunities and challenges. These informal gatherings create space for community, conversation and shared insight.
Syracuse University recognizes that teaching is a dynamic, evolving practice. Whether through workshops, peer mentoring or interdisciplinary collaboration, we foster a culture where faculty are supported in refining their teaching, exploring new technologies and deepening their impact in the classroom.
Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence
The Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) supports Syracuse University educators with a variety of services and different types of teaching support, including the Students Consulting on Teaching program. In addition to hosting public events, learning communities, reading groups and workshops, CTLE staff meet one-on-one, and with small groups and with departments/programs for personalized and customized consultations.
