Recruiting excellent faculty is an important departmental function—and one that should be ongoing. Research collaboration, conference attendance, campus visits, and communication with professional colleagues can all be sources for identifying potential colleagues. Faculty searches are obvious “recruiting” functions; however, attracting potential candidates before they are officially on the job market or before you have a position posted is another important strategy.
Academic departments are the key source of information for much of what prospective faculty need to know; however, information about the local area, campus culture, and institutional priorities may also be of interest. The following sites are good resources to include when recruiting or interviewing faculty candidates.
