All new first-year and transfer students will engage with their peers across disciplines; small class sizes composed of students from different majors will help students expand their interpersonal skills. Each section of FYS 101 is taught by a faculty, staff, or graduate student Lead Instructor and an undergraduate Peer Leader who will assist students in guided conversations, experiential activities, and reflective exercises to explore their transition to campus, enhance their sense of belonging to Syracuse University and beyond, and introduce skills to foster their engaged citizenship. Engagement with academic articles, podcasts, TedTalks, case studies, videos, campus and community engagement, and reflection forms the basis for active learning in the course.
