Faculty members may terminate their appointment, effective at the end of an academic year, provided that they give notice in writing to the dean with copy to the Vice Chancellor and Provost at the earliest possible opportunity, but not later than May 15, or 30 days after receiving notification of the terms of the appointment for the coming year, whichever date occurs later. Individuals may properly request a waiver of this requirement of notice in case of hardship or in situations where they would otherwise be denied substantial professional advancement or other opportunities.
Faculty accepting appointments at AAU institutions should be aware of policy and practices as articulated in the Association of American University Professors’ Statement on Recruitment and Resignation of Faculty Members.
